Design Inspiration at Salone del Mobile 2024
Last month, I had the privilege of attending the iconic Salone del Mobile trade exhibition in Milan. As someone deeply passionate about design and innovation, I was excited to experience the can’t-miss highlights of this year’s event firsthand.
In the kitchen pavilion, a striking trend immediately caught my eye - not a single white kitchen was on display! Instead, most exhibits showcased cabinetry designed to conceal sinks and integrated preparation appliances, allowing kitchens to blend in seamlessly with living spaces like any other furniture piece. Brands like Bora, V-Zug, and Miele are leading the way by moving away from traditional overhead range hoods and featuring sleek pop-up downdraft vents integrated into the countertops.
The bathroom design area revealed a similar shift - a departure from traditional white porcelain fixtures. With advancements in Corian-like solid surface materials, many brands are releasing beautifully colored vanity bowls and bathtubs that create warm, cozy environments contrasting the typically stark, sterile feel of all-white bathrooms.
Outdoor kitchen concepts stole the show, with incredibly stylish designs that could seamlessly transition from indoor to outdoor living. Outdoor prep counters, grills, and BBQ setups were striking in their use of richly colored concrete and solid surface materials.
Overall, there seems to be an overarching trend towards blurring the lines between utility spaces and living areas, allowing homeowners to enjoy a seamless flow throughout their dwellings. Kitchens and bathrooms are now designed as living spaces in their own right, with an emphasis on integrating functionality into warm, inviting aesthetics.
Salone del Mobile 2024 was a true feast for the senses and a thrilling glimpse into the future of residential design. I can’t wait to see how these innovative concepts inspire and influence upcoming projects!

The Marble Renaissance
For those of us who love marble, the days of it being limited to just white kitchen countertops and tiles are thankfully gone. At Salone del Mobile 2024, the world’s premiere design fair, marble and other natural stone took center stage in breathtakingly creative applications. With quarries around the globe providing an incredible array of colors, patterns and textures, marble is experiencing a true renaissance.
Advancements in manufacturing machinery and fabrication methods are allowing stone to be processed and applied in seamless, artistic ways never before possible. Several kitchen exhibits were showstoppers, with marble not just gracing the countertops but wrapping the entire island base and cabinet fronts, transforming them into sculptural works of art.
The furniture pavilions showcased absolutely stunning pieces carved entirely out of single marble slabs. Organic dining tables, sculptural hallway consoles, and even marble benches with integrated planters demonstrated the plasticity of this classic material in expert hands.
Perhaps the most captivating use of marble came from the iconic Italian brand Iconci. Their display seamlessly merged a solid travertine bathtub and basins into a travertine floor as if these were formed all at once. But the true showstopper was their back-lit, carved travertine feature wall, the lighting artfully highlighting the organic textures and natural formations within the stone.
Salone del Mobile made one thing clear - in the hands of today’s talented artists and designers, humble marble and stone have been elevated from basic building materials to living, respirable canvases for architectural creativity. The ancient, elemental beauty of marble is being reborn and celebrated in the most visionary of ways.

The Red Sea Project (Saudi Arabia): A Testament To Luxury Design And Sustainability
At STUDIOMINT, we are constantly inspired by developments that push the boundaries of luxury design while prioritizing sustainability and the well-being of both guests and the environment. The Red Sea Project in Saudi Arabia is a shining example of this approach, and we are thrilled to share that the first resorts are now open, welcoming guests to experience this extraordinary destination.
The project, which was first unveiled six years ago, spans an archipelago of more than 90 pristine islands in the Red Sea, surrounded by the world's fourth-largest barrier reef system. The vision for the Red Sea Project aligns closely with our own philosophy at STUDIOMINT – to create spaces that not only look stunning but also promote well-being, sustainability, and unforgettable experiences.
The first two resorts, Six Senses Southern Dunes and The St Regis Red Sea Resort, showcase the power of thoughtful design in crafting luxurious, authentic, and engaging spaces. Six Senses Southern Dunes, which opened in November, draws inspiration from Bedouin traditions to create a tastefully low-key luxury experience that harmonizes with the region's mountainous landscape. The resort's design evokes a sense of tranquility and comfort, encouraging guests to connect with the natural surroundings and find inner peace.
The St Regis Red Sea Resort, which began welcoming guests in December, is a masterpiece of architectural design by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. The resort's overwater and private beachfront villas are carefully designed to minimize the environmental footprint while immersing guests in the island's breathtaking natural beauty. The resort's focus on water activities and exceptional dining experiences encourages guests to engage with their surroundings and create lasting memories.
We are also eagerly anticipating the opening of Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, on Ummahat Islands. With its state-of-the-art diving centre and conservation centre, the resort promises to foster a deep appreciation for the underwater world while providing a luxurious and intimate setting for guests to strengthen their personal connections.
At STUDIOMINT, we applaud the Red Sea Project for its commitment to creating destinations that prioritize sustainability, wellness, and exceptional design. These resorts serve as an inspiration for our own work, reinforcing our belief in the transformative power of thoughtful, purposeful design. We invite you to join us in celebrating this remarkable achievement and to consider how we can all strive to create spaces that positively impact both people and the planet.
